Description
This is a Swallow Tailed Kite. Like the Snail Kite, it is uncommon in the area. I have seen a few before, and always confused them for a sea gull, though the split tail eliminated the sea gull idea.
Right now, Central Florida is teeming with wildlife and breeding birds, so I always have my camera handy. Here I was taking a photo of a common red shouldered Hawk, as this Swallow Tail came along. He was moving fast. Fortunately he glided by the hawk, kind of checking him out, so I was able to capture him in focus.
Days like this are rare. It is exciting to get a new bird (for me), especially a rare and protected one. I hope you enjoy it as well.
I replaced the unfortunate background with this texture. It compliments the black and white of the Kite.
