Description
A young Anhinga celebrating his success at fishing. This bird dives in the water and skewers the unsuspecting fish. When he came out of the water he was soaking wet, and the fish was still fighting him. I watched as the bird moved the fish around until it was able to swallow it whole.
I have seen this particular pose before, but never so close, when the camera was ready, and the bird and background were near perfect. Now the Anhinga can go to the tree and tell the story about the one that didn't get away.
This was taken at Lake Eola, a small lake in the middle of Orlando, Florida. The beautiful fountained lake is a photographer's dream now, with baby swans, baby geese, and hundreds of birds nesting in a small man made island in a corner of the lake.

Wowww! Love this Dick!! Sounds like a photographer's dream. Wish I could be there now! Thanks for sharing this great story. Talk about a perfect moment and capture. Perfect in everyway. Love the detail of the wet feathers; the pose with the speared fish is amazing! The clarity of the bird and fish are great. Poor fishy. The lighting is superb!! It's like the sun is spotlighting the bird and fish. Perfect moment, perfect composition! Love this love this love this. l/v/fave/tweeted/fb.

Thank you, Emmy. Funny, I was just getting ready to leave the lake when it happened. Part luck, and part patience.

Thank you, Anna. The adrenaline was flowing as I tried to catch this in focus. I was afraid that he was going to drop the fish.
