Description
The Kissimmee Florida waterfront is a wonderful place to find large birds, especially in the early spring. These pink and red spoonbills love to forage, and they find their unusual flat beaks very effective in stirring the water to bring up small fish and bugs.
These birds are beautiful in flight, as well, with a graceful pink belly that is clearly visible even when they are flying at their normal low altitude. Some visitors confuse them with Flamingos, which are common further south, and have a turn backed curved beak. Both are unusual for their specially adapted beaks.
The spoonbill adds some variety in the world of white, blue, and black birds that are more common. We all need more color in our lives.
