Description
This collection of Civil War medicines was displayed at the Battle of Narcoossee Mill reenactment near St. Cloud, Florida. These primitive medicines were the only ones available during that war. Brimstone and Stale Urine were legitimate medicines in those days, prior to the development of more modern, sterile medical practices.
Simply looking at this collection brings to mind the vast improvements of medicine since the mid-1860s. I suppose that 150 years from now, the x-rays and MRIs will be considered as antique and useless as these medicines are now. Life is like that.
This would be a great piece for a Doctor's Office or in the home of a doctor.
