Description
A large heron stands confident in a shallow pool at Gatorland near Kissimmee, Florida. This is not a composite image. The gators and birds have a sense of respect for each other. These birds nest in the aviary next to the gators. It is a great arrangement, with the birds receiving the benefit of protection by the gators, who enjoy an unexpected snack of a snake or raccoon that foolishly decides to enter the area. The alligators here are fed by staff, but the same are relationship between the birds and gators is true at natural aviary.
Some advice, use a zoom lens, or the gators might seek out even larger prey.

Congrats on being Showcased Artist in WFS Dick ,surprising how the heron seems unafraid L/F
Dick Hudson replied:
Thank you. The heron is safe. Nature makes strange bedfellows. One day I will post an image of a Crane surfing on the back of a huge gator.

Very, very cool capture, Dick ... beautiful clarity and detail and color as well. love the title. There's a management saying we used to use back in the day, which frankly holds true for life in general that you reminded me of. Inspect what you expect. Again, great, great photography!!! l/f
Dick Hudson replied:
Thank you, Lois. My favorite old saying is: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I can't believe that I actually said that to people.
