Something about buildings all stuck together attracts that part of me that likes city life. I can feel this place!

Dick Hudson replied:

Thank you Mary. I want to go back to Hawaii one day. Been there twice for a total of 4 hours...at the airport. On the way to Vietnam.

Great shot of these Riverfront buildings, love the lighting l/t

Dick Hudson replied:

Thanks, Linda. Your comment is a real treat, being from a Savannah native. I got there as the sun came up, and before the people got in the way. The sunrise was reflecting off of the water.

I like the angle of your shot, Dick, and the repeating lines of windows and balconies. The contrast of cool colors and archway adds a nice contrast. A favorite!

Dick Hudson replied:

Thanks, so much, Priscilla. What a treasure trove the City of Savannah is.

Nancy Harrison

Love the simplicity of one subject and your use of deep rich colors and textures as your focal point. Very refreshing in a day of so much "noise". Nice job Dick. Lf

Dick Hudson replied:

Thanks, so much, Nancy.

Artist's Description

A building at the historic Savannah Georgia Riverfront. These magnificent edifices are built of bricks that were originally used as ballast on empty ships from Europe headed to Savannah, George in the late 1700s. The ships would return to England with holds full of cotton and other American goods that were popular and necessary in Europe.

This port was important to the South in its growth. Based on some grand bargaining by the Savannah city officials, the Riverfront area was spared the destruction of many Southern cities during the American Civil War. The area on River Street looks very much like it did in the early 1800s.

About Dick Hudson

Dick Hudson

A retired helicopter pilot and Vietnam Veteran. Live in Kissimmee, Florida.... a beautiful place, with lots of photo opportunity. I photograph what I like, and it could be something different every day. This has become something of a quest for me. I want to become a Fine Artist. Seems like something that a person would do from their youth. Art School, Apprentice, Studios, etc. I am 72, and don't have time for all that. The digital camera made it easier for me, and for everyone else. It is hard to differentiate from other artists. I can see what they do, and learn how to do it, but the real prize is to develop my own style, and exceed my own standards. Getting better at my own standard is hard enough. I have learned so much in the...
