Artist's Description

Two-week old Great Egret Chicks, still under the protection of their mother, stretch their necks after a long night's sleep. It will not be long before their wings develop and they begin to hop from limb to limb, practicing their limited flying skills. In about two weeks they will leave the nest for their first real flight. Success is vital due to the danger from alligators just 10 feet beneath their nest. During their nesting period, the alligators keep raccoons and snakes away from the nests, making gator habitats the favorite of Florida nesting birds. This image is from the amazing rookery at Gatorland just south of Orlando, Florida.

A retired helicopter pilot and Vietnam Veteran. Live in Kissimmee, Florida.... a beautiful place, with lots of photo opportunity. I photograph what I like, and it could be something different every day. This has become something of a quest for me. I want to become a Fine Artist. Seems like something that a person would do from their youth. Art School, Apprentice, Studios, etc. I am 72, and don't have time for all that. The digital camera made it easier for me, and for everyone else. It is hard to differentiate from other artists.
